Salzburg Open-Air Museum

„Located near Salzburg, in the heart of the Untersberg Nature Park, the Salzburg Open-Air Museum covers an area of 50 hectares and illustrates how rural people in the province of Salzburg lived, built their homes and farmed between the 16th and 20th centuries.”.

Just outside the town, you can admire perfect replicas of farmhouses, craftsmen’s cottages, mills, stables, a smithy and a sawmill. The open-air museum preserves more than 100 original buildings, grouped according to the province’s five regions. In addition to craft demonstrations, the museum offers a truly interactive experience thanks to events that revive current folk customs (such as the Easter market and the Maypole raising) and celebrate traditional customs.”

„If the 50-hectare site is too large to explore on foot, you can board the two-kilometre-long historic museum narrow-gauge railway at any of its three stops. Another fascinating attraction is the tractor exhibition, complete with multimedia displays, featuring a tractor climbing the mountainous terrain. Delicious treats await you in the museum’s old-fashioned restaurant („Salettl“). Whilst the adults enjoy the delicious treats, the little ones can have a great time playing in the adventure playground, complete with water features, a treehouse and seesaws.”
